31/10/2007
24 November to 9 December.
The relationships between music and power exercised through artistic patronage in the modern era (16th to 18th centuries) are the focus of the Early Music Festival of Úbeda and Baeza as it goes into its 11th year. The festival is centred around five topics that explore the different areas of musical patronage; court, nobility, church and city.

BOOK ON SALE: Echoes of Heaven: The fine art of cathedrals and their hymns
24/09/2007
This unusual picture book featuring large-format photographs by Florian Monheim, a renowned architectural photographer, invites you to immerse yourself in the special world of cathedral art. Monheim's photos feature the beauty, both apparent and concealed, of great cathedrals, capturing the magic of these locations and preserving the qualities which churches can give to a viewer today in the way of fascination, inspiration and peace. The optical effect is enhanced by classical music by Bruckner, Schütz, Pergolesi and other composers.

5 Star : Complete instrumental music and selected motets

Grillo remained at the Scuola, freelanced at San Marco, and eventually won the post of first organist there.

BOOK ON SALE: A Venetian Concert: Grand Italian Architecture and Renaissance Music
24/09/2007

With brilliant photography and music from the period, 'Ville nel Veneto' celebrates the elegance and seemingly immortal beauty of these unique buildings, which once symbolized the power of the wealthy Venetians.

29/10/2007
CDs dedicated to early music tend more and more to be anthologies of unrelated pieces grouped together with a clever title. That may be the case, but unless we are offered something new, the content often ends up confusing and is enlivened only by an exceptional performance.
