   MIKLÓS SPÁNYI
Miklós Spányi was born in Budapest in 1962. He studied organ and harpsichord at the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in his native city under Ferenc Gergely and János Sebestyén.

He continued his studies at the Royal Flemish Conservatory (Koninklijk Vlaams Muziekconservatorium) under Jos van Immerseel and at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich under Hedwig Bilgram. Miklós Spányi has given concerts in most European countries as a soloist on five keyboard instruments (organ, harpsichord, fortepiano, clavichord and tangent piano) as well as playing continuo in various orchestras and baroque ensembles.

He has won first prize at international harpsichord competitions in Nantes (1984) and Paris (1987). For some years Miklós Spányi’s work as a performer and researcher has concentrated on the œuvre of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. He has also worked intensively to revive C.P.E. Bach’s favourite instrument, the clavichord. For Könemann Music, Budapest, Miklós Spányi has edited some volumes of C.P.E. Bach’s solo keyboard music.

Miklós Spányi teaches at the Oulu Conservatory and at the Sibelius Academy in Finland. In recent years he has also performed as a conductor and piano soloist with orchestras using modern instruments.

He records regularly for BIS.
