Matthew has recorded for Avie, Deux-Elles, Linn and EMI Records. His latest CDs, “Away Delights” (featuring music by Robert Johnson) and “14 Silver Strings” (Kapsberger and Piccinini) have received international critical acclaim. His next CD (Philip Rosseter) will be released in September 2005.
Wadsworth is now a regular performer at the Wigmore Hall and South Bank Centre and gives lute song recitals with soprano Carolyn Sampson, tenor James Gilchrist and baritones Peter Harvey and Thomas Guthrie. He has worked with The Academy of Ancient Music, The Netherlands Bach Society, I Fagiulini, English Touring Opera and The Musicians of the Globe, among others, and is a founder member of Ricordo, which has earned an enviable reputation for its flamboyant performances of seventeenth century music. Ricordo’s next CD (featuring the music of Schmeltzer) will be released in September 2005.
Matthew studied lute with Nigel North at London’s Royal Academy of Music, winning the London Student of the Year award in 1997 for his work on the development of Braille lute tablature. He spent a year at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and now teaches at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Wadsworth continues to be involved with Braille music technology and is collaborating with a company in the USA to facilitate production of Braille lute tablature from electronic format.
Engagements for 2005 include the Purcell Room, the Georgian Concert Society (Edinburgh), the Lufthansa, Beverley, Spitalfields and Budapest festivals, The Academy of Ancient Music, English Touring Opera (Handel's “Alcina”), Birmingham Opera Company (Monteverdi’s “Return of Ulysses”) and solo performances in New York.
