   ARIEL ABRAMOVICH
Born in Buenos Aires in 1976.His initial interest in rock, jazz, and Latin-American music led him to pursue guitar studies with Norberto Pedreira and Enrique Sinesi, while exploring other languages with musicians such as Hugo Romero. He then undertook the study of classical guitar with José Luis Merlín, Miguel de Olaso, at the same time attending seminars with Miguel Ángel Girollet and others.

It is during this period that he was mesmerized by a fantasy by Luys de Narváez, an event that determined his immediate, entire and exclusive devotion to the 16th-century repertoire for lute and vihuela. He then focused on the study of early instruments with Dolores Costoyas and Eduardo Egüez, while attending courses with Paul O´Dette, Hopkinson Smith and Pedro Memelsdorff. From 1996 to 1999 he studied with Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Basel, Switzerland), where he also had the opportunity to work with such artists as Anthony Rooley, Dominique Vellard and Crawford Young, among others.

At present, he continues to extend his education through casual lessons with Hopkinson Smith, Eugène Ferré or anyone who might be willing to share knowledge and help him take a further step towards his ideals. He is the co-founder, together with José Hernández Pastor, of "El Cortesano", a group dedicated solely to Renaissance music.

His most recent recording is the one done for ARCANA with El Cortesano, dedicated entirely to the work of Castilian vihuelist Estevan Daça.

Other recordings include collaborations with La Compañía del Tempranillo ("Veneno de los Sentidos", 1999) and with renowned Brazilian popular musician Marcelo Delacroix (2000).

Ariel Abramovich is one of a few musicians of his generation to specialize in such a specific repertoire as that for lute and vihuela dating from 1507 to 1630.
