   ENSEMBLE DOULCE MEMOIRE
Founded in 1990 by the flautist Denis Raisin-Dadre, the Doulce Mémoire ensemble is what in the 16th century would have been called a consort of voices and instruments', and it has a repertoire exclusively or Renaissance music. Although initially based in Paris, the group now comes from the Val de Loire, the scene of the some of French Renaissance's finest survivals.

In order to restore the multiple sound image of the Renaissance, Doulce Mémoire have re-created the various groups involved in the musical life of the courts in the 15th and 16th centuries, such as they use to exist particularly at the court of François the 1st. Doulce Mémoire was soon active on both the French and international scene and became known as one of the most original and creative groups in its field. famous first performances at the Auditorium of the Louvre such as Susannah and the Old Men', Il tempo si renuova' were followed by an invitation to the Festival d'Ambronay to perform a world premier, the madrigalesque drama combining music and theatre, Il Studio Delitevolle's, which toured Europe. The group was subsequently invited to the Festival International de Beaune to perform a musical version of the emperor Charles V's bedside book, The Courtisan', by Baldassare Castiglione.

Doulce Mémoire' concert programmes are Renaissance frescoes, from the most riotous of farce (La Dive Bouteille', a Renaissance cabaret performed in Rumania which toured in the Balkans) to the funeral rites of the kings of France (Requiem du Roy Henri IV, first performed at the Festival du Vieux Lyon), carnival songs from the time of Lorenzo the Magnificent, and psalms of the Reformed church. The ensemble has also worked with notable international groups, such as: Il Ballarino's from Florence (for a formal ball held at the end of the year 2000 as part af the series Les Medici et la france'); the singer Ousbek Morâjât Yultchieva (for a concert during the festival Orient-Occident de saint Florent le Vieil in 1998); and the Taiwanese company Nang Tang Yuefu (for a world premier at the Utrecht Festival with Péniche Opéra with subsequent performences in paris, Opéra Comique, in March 2000).

Doulce Mémoire records in France on the Astrée/Auvidis label and its discography has received unanimous from both the French and international musical press, not to mention a considerable number of awards, notably Diapason d'Or, Choc de la musique, ffff de Télérama, Milia d'Or in Cannes, and 10 de Répertoire. Baldassar Castiglione', Il libro del Cortegiano' (Astrée/Auvidis E 8604) was awarded the Grand Prix de l'Académie du disque. Lorenzo Il Magnifico, Trionfo di Bacco-Chansons de Carnaval' (1449-1492) (Astrée/Auvidis E 8626) received a Diapason d'Or for 1998. Requiem des Rois de France' by Eustache Du Caurroy (Astrée E 8660) was voted classical record of the year by the newspaper Le Monde and won the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros.

Doulce Mémoire is sponsored by Région Centre, by the Fondation d'entreprise France Telecom, by the Ministère de la Culture-DRAC Centre, and by the Association Française d'Action Artistique. The frensh Foreign Ministry sponsors all of the group's international tours.
