   THE KING'S CONSORT
The King´s Consort is one of Europe's leading period instrument orchestras. Founded in 1980, The King´s Consort has toured in five continents and appeared in almost every European country, in Japan, Hong Kong and the Far East, as well as North and South America. With 80 CDs in the catalogue, and more than one million CD sales, The King´s Consort is one of the world's most-recorded historical instrument orchestras.

For twenty-three years The King´s Consort has presented an adventurous variety of repertoire from the baroque and classical eras in some of the greatest European concert halls, including those of Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey. Highlights have included five appearances at the BBC Proms, performances of the spectacular Coronation of King George II widely across Britain and Europe, Bach Mass in B Minor to capacity audiences at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, Paris Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and London Queen Elizabeth Hall, staged performances of Purcell The Fairy Queen in Spain and Britain, a live TV concert in Prague's Rudolphinum in the presence of Queen Elizabeth and President Havel, the opening concert of BBC TV's Purcell celebrations, the Venetian reconstruction Lo Sposalizio in festivals and concert halls across Europe, and Mozart Requiem in the glorious Alhambra Palace in Granada. Staged operas have included Handel Ottone in Japan and Britain, Handel Ezio at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Purcell The Indian Queen in the historic theatre in Schwetzingen, Germany and The Fairy Queen in Britain and Spain. Tours further afield have included concert and opera performances in Tokyo, Osaka and across Japan, in Hong Kong and the Philippines, in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, and across the USA and Canada.

The King´s Consort's eighty, highly-acclaimed recordings with Hyperion have won many international awards and sold over one million copies. The orchestra is especially regarded for its many recordings of music by Handel and Purcell, but its catalogue also includes Bach Mass in B Minor, Handel Arias with James Bowman, Schütz The Christmas Story, Mozart Epistle Sonatas, Gabrieli Motets, Pergolesi and Astorga Stabat Mater, Telemann Wassermusik, Boccherini's rarely-heard Stabat Mater of 1801, the massive Venetian reconstruction Lo Sposalizio, vocal music by Dowland, Scarlatti, Hasse and Couperin, and concertos by Telemann, Albinoni and Vivaldi. Twenty-five world-premiere recordings of Purcell's complete Odes and Welcome Songs, Secular Solo Songs and the Sacred Music have established The King´s Consort as the world's leading performers of this composer's music. The King´s Consort is also renowned for its recordings of Handel oratorios and operas, including Acis and Galatea, Ottone, Joshua, Deborah, Judas Maccabaeus, The Occasional Oratorio, Joseph and his Brethren, L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato and Alexander Balus, as well as the Four Coronation Anthems, the Musick for the Royal Fireworks and the Water Music.

Current CD projects include two much-praised series: Vivaldi's complete Sacred Music and an exploration of rare German music, Bach's Contemporaries, including sacred music by Kuhnau, Knüpfer, Zelenka and Schelle. To be released later in 2003 are the first discs in a new series, The Complete Sacred Music of Monteverdi. Recently released to great acclaim have been classical trumpet concertos by Haydn, Hummel and Hertel with Crispian Steele-Perkins, and a stunning recording of The Coronation of King George II (1727), also available in surround-sound SACD format which immediately became a best-selling disc.

Major concert projects this season include further stagings of Lo Sposalizio and The Coronation of King George II, tours in Europe and North America, a new dance project with Random Dance (Bach The Four Orchestral Suites), and concert performances including Handel Joshua, L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato and Messiah, Haydn The Creation, Mozart Requiem and Mendelssohn Elijah.
