  I BAROCCHISTI
This Ensemble harvests the heritage of the Society Cameristica di Lugano, which since the early Fifties and with Edwin Loehrer developped an essential activity in the recovery of vocal and instrumental works of the Baroque, earning world-wide success with live performances and recording (among which several Golden Records).

Together with the Swiss Radio Choir, in these last years, under the direction of Diego Fasolis and with the name "Ensemble Vanitas" it has realized several concerts and records always enthusiastically welcomed by the specialized critic (Bach, Magnificat e Cantata BWV 21, Johannespassion ARTS (+ Video SSR), Galuppi "Il mondo alla roversa" CPO, Monteverdi "Vespro della Beata Vergine" ARTS (+Video SSR), Haendel "Dixit Dominus, Dettingen Te Deum" ARTS, Purcell "Ode on St. Cecilia's Day" ARTS, Vivaldi, "Gloria, Magnificat, Dixit" Amadeus Giubileo 2000).

The First violin is the Swiss artist Duilio Galfetti (well-known for his Teldec recordings). The Ensemble is made up in variable formations of 6 to 26 musicians all renowned Swiss and Italian virtuosi with a solid cultural and instrumental preparation and with their own soloistic activity, acknowledged at international levels. They all had also several experiences in groups as Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, English Consort, Giardino Armonico, Accademia Bizantina, Europa Galante, Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca...

The "latin" character of the performances marked by virtuosity and rhythm, balanced by a constant expressive melodiousness drives to the praise both audience and critic, who since the beginnings is writing in enthusiastic terms.

The group will become the resident Ensemble for Baroque Music of Lugano Festival 2000, the new musical enterprise which will start with Haendel's Messiah and a program dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach in his 250th death anniversary.
