Following the lead of Musica Fiata, La Capella Ducale specialises in the performance of works from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, drawing insights, awareness and performance techniques from historical sources to bring new understanding to the works of such master composers as Monteverdi, Schütz and Praetorius.
Of particular importance to their approach to the performance of these works is the acknowledgment of the close association between music and rhetoric drawn by musical theorists and practitioners of the late Renaissance and early Baroque. The resultant performances by La Capella Ducale offer a heightened sense of the elements intrinsic to the beauty of this "ancient" music.
The size of La Capella Ducale varies according to the requirements of the repertoire, ranging from a few soloists -- including such well-known specialists as David Cordier, Wilfried Jochens and Harry van der Kamp -- to a small choir.
Unanimously praised by critics and audiences alike for their virtuosity, individuality and superb ensemble, La Capella Ducale have so far released four CDs on Sony Classical's VIVARTE label, including Heinrich Schütz's Symphoniae Sacrae II (S2K 68261) and Praetorius' Polyhymnia Caduceatrix & Panegyrica (S2K 62929), both recorded with Musica Fiata Köln.
