In 1975 he won the first prize at the National Pro Civitate Competition and over the years since then, has created a wide international career that has included hundreds of concerts and opera performances throughout Europe, the US, Canada, Israel and Japan.
He has made over 50 recordings under such conductors as John Eliot Gardiner, Ton Koopman, Roger Norrington, William Christie, René Jacobs and others. Several of these recordings were awarded international prizes, like the Grand Prix du Disque and the Deutcher Schallplattenpreis.
Highlights of his operatic performances are Mozart’s Magic Flute and Monteverdi’s Orfeo under Roger Norrington at the London Proms, Alban Berg’s Lulu and Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov at the Brussels Opera, Lully’s Athys at the Paris and New York Operas, Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande at the Nantes Opera, and a tour through Japan with the Purcell Quartett as Nerone in Monteverdi’s Poppea.
Guy de Mey is a regular guest soloist in all the leading festivals, including his yearly participation in the Festival of Old Music in Innsbruck.
