   ANNE AZEMA
French soprano Anne Azéma, is one of the world's leading interpreters of early vocal music.

She has been acclaimed by critics on four continents for her original, passionate, and vivid approach to songs and texts of the Middle Ages. Anne Azéma has also been widely praised in many other repertoires, from Renaissance lute songs to Baroque sacred music to twentieth-century music theatre.

Since 1993, Anne Azéma has been not only the performer but also the creator of her recital programs. She researches and edits the repertoire, frequently transcribing the material herself from original sources. Her genuine and personal involvement with musical scholarship, combined with her performer's flair for immediacy of communication, give her recitals and recordings both a historical depth and an expressive "edge" that are unique in the field. Anne Azema's Programs

Ms Azéma's current discography numbers about thirty recordings as a soloist or a recitalist. Repertoires encompass Medieval Music (French, Provençal), Renaissance music (English and French), Baroque music (French, German), as well as contemporary music (Kurt Weill, Tod Machover). Her sixth recital CD is to be issued in the 2002 season.

Anne Azéma has been a soloist with numerous other ensembles, large and small, early and contemporary. Her concert activities range, to cite a few recent examples, from Tully Hall, New York (with the New York Chamber Ensemble) to the Klein Comburg Church in Tuebingen, Germany ( Ensemble Ordo Virtutum), or to the Bunkamura Concert Hall in Tokyo (MIT Media Lab opera production). Her recent festival invitations as a soloist or a recitalist include Amsterdam, Graz, Dresden, Leipzig, Spoleto, Seville, Versailles, Jerusalem, Berlin, Boston, Bergen, Ambronay, Utrecht, Casablanca, Kyoto, Tanglewood and Tokyo.

A featured soloist with The Boston Camerata and Camerata Mediterranea (Joel Cohen, Director), she has taken prominent roles in many of these ensemble's tours and recordings (Grand Prix du Disque, Edison Prize). She has co-directed several programs of The Boston Camerata.
