He is now also director of the choir Psalmody, musical director of Opera Restor'd and artistic director of the Suffolk Villages Festival. He is the author of Four and Twenty Fiddlers: The Violin at the English Court 1540-1690 (1993), Henry Purcell (1994) and Dowland: Lachrimae (1999). He has recently been appointed Reader in Musicology at Leeds University.
