Her art and savoir-faire are based on solid stylistic knowledge of the earliest vocal repertoires and of Gregorian chant notation. This enables her to recreate medieval monody and polyphony with all their original force and subtle flavours intact. She is the director of the a cappella female group Discantus, which is primarily devoted to the earliest sacred repertoire. She and the flautist Pierre Hamon also direct the vocal and instrumental group Alla francesca (in which she also plays the harp and percussion instruments). This ensemble performs pre-15th century secular music. Since the 1990s Lesne has appeared with the two ensembles in most of the best-known early music and international venues. Her impressive discography has won unanimous critical praise. She has made ten CDs with Discantus and eleven with Alla francesca; she also recorded a solo CD entitled Ave Eva. Two new recordings, Mare nostrum with Discantus and Tristan et Iseult with Alla francesca, will be released in 2004 on the Jade label.
