There is little music in the world that succeeds in achieving such levels of perfection and absolute humanity at the same time. The performance of which I have become fondest is the historical one by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Gerald Moore, a pianist of great class and a voice of infinite expressiveness, always contemporary.

I discovered Telemann with this recording. Suffocated by the imposing shadow of his friend from Eisenach, it was for me a name and a pleasant memory, but not a very prominent one. Since then, I have understood, read about, and appreciated not only the musician but also the man Telemann: a true son of his time, open, cosmopolitan, brilliant, full of humanity and energy. This CD is a superb summary of all these characteristics in the perfection of the trio form, a small-scale ensemble for a musical jewel, with some very dear friends to execute it in their unmistakable style.
