10 CDS FOR A DESERT ISLAND: PAOLA ERDAS
Schubert

Die Winterreise
Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Gerald Moore
EMI

Since Defoe the image of the shipwreck on a desert island inevitably recalls a tropical setting: a winter voyage, therefore, will be essential to maintain the memory of the cycle of the year, of the passing of the seasons. There is little music in the world that succeeds in achieving such levels of perfection and absolute humanity at the same time. The performance of which I have become fondest is the historical one by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Gerald Moore, a pianist of great class and a voice of infinite expressiveness, always contemporary.

Rameau

Pièces de Clavecin
Kenneth Gilbert
Archiv

The birth of a great passion: the harpsichord, its sound and French music, which, better than any other, succeeds in taking advantage of the magnificent sonority of the instrument. It was my first disc (in vinyl of course) of early music, and it has been a faithful companion in the years of study, an elegant and intelligent companion, full of good taste, like its composer and like its interpreter.

Fabrizio De Andrè

Le Nuvole
Fonit Cetra

I am convinced that in every one of us, year after year, a special inner “ideal sound” is formed, which does not belong to a specific instrument or voice, and this is precisely the timbre which we try to convey and reproduce as performers. Surely Fabrizio’s voice is part of mine: it is an ancient, comforting velvet, and has a magnificent weft, slightly veiled, like the low register of a French harpsichord.

Telemann/Bach

Sonatas and Trios
Tripla Concordia
Cantus

I discovered Telemann with this recording. Suffocated by the imposing shadow of his friend from Eisenach, it was for me a name and a pleasant memory, but not a very prominent one. Since then, I have understood, read about, and appreciated not only the musician but also the man Telemann: a true son of his time, open, cosmopolitan, brilliant, full of humanity and energy. This CD is a superb summary of all these characteristics in the perfection of the trio form, a small-scale ensemble for a musical jewel, with some very dear friends to execute it in their unmistakable style.

Telemann

Quatuors Parisiennes
B. Kuijken, S. Kuijken, W. Kuijken, G. Leonhardt
Sony

When I reach the last movement I cannot stop listening to it. It will be indispensable to have a CD player with the repeat function. But it is not only the music – the performance is also perfect, absolutely perfect.
