10 CDS FOR A DESERT ISLAND: DAVID PARSONS
Air de Cours. Nigel Rogers (Tenor) and Anthony Bailes (Lute)
For me these are the best examples of early song. These songs are performed so well that they are still very up-to-date.

Pièces de Luth. Anthony Bailes (Lute)
An expert in the French style brisé, Anthony Bailes presents the music that influenced Louis Couperin, Froberger and other important composers of the 17th century.

Die Baroque Lute. Michael Schaeffer (Baroque Lute)
Michael Schaeffer died shortly after making this recording. He was a teacher at the Hochschule für Musik and taught many of today’s best lutenists. He was a superb musician.

Ralph Vaughan Williams. Symphony no. 5. André Previn LSO
I first heard this music when I was 18 and it astonished me. Funnily enough it was my introduction to the world of early music.

William Walton. Symphony no. 1. André Previn LSO
This symphony is full of force and rhythm. I heard it live when I was a student and I still remember the concert.
