On two of the CDs they performed with another ensemble: “Rise, O my soul,” a collection of sixteenth-century English anthems (Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal); and Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, the seven parts of which coincide with the seven “members” of Christ’s crucified body (Les Voix Baroque); and the third, the fourth and last recording in the series of Sainte-Colombe’s Concerts a deux violes égales, they were the sole performers. Since 1996 Opus has been offered by the Conseil de Québécois de la Musique to outstanding performers who nurture and promote music in Canada’s province of Quebec.
The musicians of Montreal’s Les Voix Humaines are two gambists who played themselves into first place. Susie Napper and Margaret Little were recognized collectively by the Conseil québécois de la musique (CQM) as Performer of the Year, and received the Conseil’s prestigious Opus Award for 2007. Les Voix Humaines has recorded their seventeenth-century repertoire on more than 30 discs as sole performers or in collaboration with other international performers.
Since 1996 CQM has awarded the Prix Opus to individuals, recordings or organizations that perform or promote excellent concert music in the province of Quebec.
