The group, which works with baroque gesture specialist Jana Semeradova and appears in a variety of festivals in the Czech Republic and other countries, focuses on reconstructing Baroque choreography, and has carried out extensive research in Czech and other archives in its quest to reconstruct Central European music and dance of the 17th and 18th centuries.
On the 11th, the Bravade Consort, a young Finnish recorder quartet, which recently commissioned a family of Renaissance recorders from the Dutch builder Adriana Breukink, will play music ranging from Josquin des Prez and Orlando di Lasso to contemporary composers Karel van Steenhoven and Lotta Wennäkoski. A second concert on the 11th will feature countertenor Carlos Mena and the Ricercar Consort.
The following day the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, founded in 1997 by Reinhard Goebel, will perform. Aapo Häkkinin is the artistic director of the ensemble, which has received backing from Helsinki’s Deputy Mayor, Dr. Pekka Sauri, and appears throughout Europe. On the 13th, Finnish guitarist Janne Malinen will give a recital accompanied by a string ensemble, and on the 14th the Bozen Baroque Orchestra, based in Bolzano (Italy), and actively involved in research on the Baroque lyrical and liturgical repertoires, will accompany soprano Susanne Rydén.
The next day lyric soprano Wiebke Huhs will give a recital, followed by the Finnish premiere of Cavalli’s La Rosinda, performed by Mike Fentross’s ensemble La Sfera Armoniosa. Finland’s star countertenor Teppo Lampela will give a recital devoted to works by Bach, Handel, Pergolesi, Buxtehude and Avro Pärt on the 15th, and on the 16th soprano Meri Siirala and mezzo Essi Luttinen, accompanied by the HeBo Ensemble, will present the closing concert.
