In addition to numerous concert appearances, Minstrelsy! has been heard nationally on radio programs via their two critically acclaimed compact discs, Minstrelsy! and Vieni o cara, both on the Lyrichord Discs Early Music Series label.
Minstrelsy's repertoire spans over 600 years and includes music as diverse as the late 14th-century Ars Nova and the 18th century gallant style of composers such as Georg Philipp Telemann. The ensemble specializes in intimate chamber music and adaptations of theatrical music composed during the 17th and early 18th-centuries.
Minstrelsy's reputation for precise ensemble work and musical variety is well founded. Combinations of recorder, violin, voice, pardessus de viole, etc., are supported by a "plucked" basso continuo section of archlute (or theorbo) and bass viola da gamba. The musical fabric is intimate, lively and full of color.
Minstrelsy members, Nancy Froseth (viols da gamba and winds), David Hays (baroque violin and rebec), Carole Hofstad Lee (soprano), David Livingston (winds), and Phillip Rukavina (lutes, archlute and theorbo) have pursued extensive study in historical performance practice with some of the most important and influential figures in the field of early music today.
