The Accademia di San Rocco was set up in 1996 with the idea of bringing music back to the Scuola Grande, in the wake of those great musicians who had frequented it in the past such as Giovanni Gabrieli, Giovanni Battista Grillo, Giovanni Picchi Francesco Cavalli and Claudio Monteverdi. The historical revival aspects of the project have earned it the sponsorship of UNESCO, Save Venice and various other private committees for safeguarding Venice. The Accademia di San Rocco is the resident ensemble of the Venetian baroque festival "Feste Musicali per San Rocco" during which it has collaborated with prestigious soloists, conductors and choirs.

As well as its institutional activities in Venice, the ensemble also dedicates part of its work to concerts, tours and collaboration with important Italian and foreign institutions. In 1998, following a meeting with Andrea Marcon, the Venice Baroque Orchestra project was born with members of the Accademia di San Rocco playing the leading roles. In this guise, the group has made various recordings and toured in Italy and abroad.
