Sicily has long been a bridge to distant civilisations and since early times its culture has been shaped by the concurrent presence of Hellenic, Arabic and lastly, Norman influences. Al Qantarah’s music evokes the sounds of that multi-ethnic island in sacred, lay and secular works, as they play on replicas of traditional medieval instruments of the Sicilian, Arabic and Persian traditions. The hauntingly beautiful sounds of Al Qantarah will fill St David’s Cathedral in a special concert in Hobart and they will enchant guests at Fabio Giuffre’s Sicilian Dinner at Inveresk. They will also perform as part of the Mediterranean Odyssey at Moorilla’s Museum of Antiquities.
