A former member of the Royal Opera House cricket team, John has now turned his hand to amateur weather-forecasting and wine-tasting!
His opera engagements have included Apollo and Ganymede in Handel's Semele at the Staatsoper, Unter-den-Linden, Berlin and Innsbruck Festival, 1st Shepherd L'Orfeo at the Teatro Comunale, Florence, La Monnaie and the at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Shepherd & Huntsman in Blow's Venus And Adonis and Sailor Purcell's Dido And Aeneas, both at the Innsbruck Festival and at De Vlaamse Opera and Soliman in Mozart's Zaide on tour in Belgium and Ireland and at the Covent Garden Festival.
His repertoire also includes Ugone in Handel's Flavio and Tancredi in Monteverdi's Combattimento Di Tancredi & Clorinda. His directors have included Graham Vick, Karl-Ernst and Ursule Hermann, Stephen Lawless, Trisha Brown, Luca Ronconi and Robert Chevara.
Concert appearances have included Mozart Requiem and Rachmaninov's Vespers with Matthew Best and the Corydon Singers at the City of London Festival, John Tavener's The Apocalypse with Richard Hickox at the BBC Proms, Judas Maccabaeus in Poland with The King's Consort, Berlioz's L'enfance du Christ with David Atherton and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Britten's Les Illuminations for Frederick Ashton's ballet at The Royal Opera House, Mendelssohn's Elijah with Paul Daniel and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at the Edinburgh Festival.
Concert appearences have included also Bach Cantatas with Joshua Rifkin and the City of London Sinfonia at the Barbican, Schubert, Berlioz and Mendelssohn with Michel Corboz and the Ensemble Vocale de Lausanne, Britten's Spring Symphony with Malcolm Goldring, Monteverdi and Mendelssohn with Hugh Wolff and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vaughan Williams' Sir John In Love with Richard Hickox and the Northern Sinfonia, and Messiah with Nicholas Kraemer and The Manchester Camerata and the Ulster Orchestra.
